I think that owc thermal cable for imac 2013 and later is a scam. The imac hard drive has an integrated temperature sensor the imac fans will run at full speed if you replace the hdd without the temperature sensor and or proper connector. I also replaced the pcie ssd with a samsung nvme 1tb unit with an adapter this also works perfectly. This will be required for any 3 5 or 2 5 drive. If you are upgrading the main bay in any imac late 2009 current besides the 21 5 2013 2013 imac you will need the owc thermal sensor cable.

All i needed to source was the sata power cable. I would have had to use the sensor anyway as the new drive is mechanical but if you ve purchased an ssd prior to 2015 that you wish to swap in use the temp sensor. This hack fix bypasses the hdd temperature sensor in order to fool imac into thinking that hard drive is working at normal temperature. If you are installing an ssd to replace the hdd on imac 2013 and later you don t even need the thermal sensor cable from owc because the heat info will be read through s m a r t.
